Wauconda Bunny Hop 2013 - March 30

Wauconda Bunny Hop 2013 - March 30
4-mile/2-Mile Run for the Library

On Saturday, March 30, the Friends of the Wauconda Area Library, in partnership with StarRunners, will sponsor the second annual Bunny Hop, a 4-mile run and everyone is invited to be part of the festivities!  There will also be a 2-mile fun run/walk for those who want to participate but do not want to run four miles. All proceeds of this family-friendly event will benefit the Friends of the Library.

The annual Bunny Hop has helped fund some important new library services. With funds raised in 2012, the Friends provided funding for a new delivery van that services new drive-by book returns at the Island Lake and Volo village halls and a new self-checkout station in the Children’s Services Department.  The van service has already greatly improved access to materials for many patrons in Island Lake and Volo, and in the coming year will be expanded to include schools and senior centers.

Both the 4-mile and 2-mile courses will start from and end at the library.  The 4-mile run begins at 9 a.m. and is a hilly, challenging run around scenic Bangs Lake.  The 2-mile fun run/walk around Cook Park and down Main Street begins at 9:10 a.m.  The Easter Bunny will be visiting in order to cheer on our runners/walkers and pose for pictures.

The awards ceremony starts at 10:15 a.m.  Bunny-shaped trophies will be awarded to the first place overall male and female contestants, as well as the first and second place winners in various age categories.  To maintain a fun and creative atmosphere, winners for Best Costume and Best Spectator Sign will also be chosen.

The entry fee for the 4-mile run is $25 and the 2-mile fun run/walk entry fee is $15.  Children under 5 can walk for free (unless they want a t-shirt).  All paid participants will receive a goody bag containing a list of sponsors and a variety of health-related items.  Sign up early, as the first 200 entrants will receive a Bunny Hop t-shirt.

StarRunners, a division of the non-profit STAR (Sharing Time and Resources) is organizing the event with the Friends of the Library. Glenn Starkey (Director of StarRunners) and Peggy Shulha (Event Chair for the Friends) are the two coordinators for the Bunny Hop.
